Jill Biden apologizes after comparing Latinos to tacos during San Antonio speech

At an event in San Antonio, Texas, Jill Biden apologized for saying Latinos are as "unique" as breakfast tacos.

In a tweet Tuesday, LaRosa apologized for conveying anything other than pure admiration and love for Latinos.

As she spoke during the annual UnidosUS conference on Monday, Biden praised Raul Yzaguirre, who led the civil rights and advocacy organization for 30 years,

Many took issue with her mispronunciation of bodegas and comparison of Latinos to tacos, a long-held stereotype.

...As the National Association of Hispanic Journalists pointed out in a statement, Biden's remarks "display a lack of cultural knowledge and sensitivity to Latino diversity."

'We encourage Dr. Biden and her speechwriting team to take the time in the future to better understand the complexities of our people and communities.

...We are not tacos. Our heritage as Latinos is shaped by a variety of diasporas, cultures, and food traditions, and should not be reduced to stereotypes.'"

Senator Marco Rubio, whose parents came from Cuba, also poked fun at Biden's remarks by tweeting a taco photo.

According to its website, UnidosUS is the largest gathering of Latinos and allies committed to social change.

The Hill reported that Biden will speak at the American Federation of Teachers Convention in Boston on Friday. It's the first time the event has been held in person since 2018.
