Delta flight cancellations cause trouble for holiday travelers

Thousands of Delta flights were disrupted during Memorial Day weekend.

On Sunday, Lisa Harris and Kathleen Stuck flew home with Delta, without any problems.

Delta, however, has been largely blamed for the situation, according to Thrifty Traveler, due to severe pilot staffing issues.

The airline blames elements such as weather, air traffic control, staffing, and COVID-19 for the mess.

Delta's Chief Customer Experience Officer Allison Ausband warned that, more than at any other point in the company's history, multiple factors are affecting our operation,

...including weather and air traffic control, vendor staffing, and an increase in COVID-19 cases that are contributing to higher-than-planned unscheduled absence rates in some work groups.

In keeping with our commitment to providing the airline-of-choice experience we're so proud to provide,

...we value the energy and efforts of our team members and the support of our customers, they said in a letter.

Due to the pandemic, airlines downsized to survive and are now stretched too thin.
